Ruth-better company
In the summer of 2019 Brighton-based better company founder, mother-of-three (now) Ruth, was already on a journey to make her family home more sustainable, changing daily habits and products, when she began to realise the planet-damaging reality of her period each month. She was fed up with endless disposable sanitary products, knowing that they were all ending up in landfill and our oceans.
As with many menstrual cup evangelists, it was a close friend waxing lyrical – in this case, Ruth’s younger sister raving about making the change – that pushed Ruth to take the plunge for herself. The idea to start her own brand of sustainable female sanitary wear was niggling away in the back of Ruth’s mind and a a few months later she took the jump off the business-start-up cliff.
And so, the passion behind The better company was born: to create sustainable products of exceptional quality, and for every sale to gift one to a person that needs it most.

Faith-Rowan-slow fashion
Faith is a born and bred Brightonian. She spent her early years cycling along the seafront and sipping tea in the laines with her mum and little sister.
In the Autumn of 2013 Faith packed her bags and headed to the London College of Fashion where she gained a first-class Batchelors in Swimwear and Lingerie design. Faith being the spontaneous, if not slightly wild, adventurer that she is, went to work in Australia, where swimwear comprises 50% of most peoples wardrobes. Although Aus was dreamy and had much more reliable weather forecasts, there was work to be done and companies to create back home.
Faith ran an award-winning underwear company for three years but the allure of coastal sunsets and the cry of the seagulls at 4 in the morning called her back to her hometown.
During the pandemic Faith decided it was a perfect time to start her next venture. Bored of working with tiny pattern pieces and making amazing products that no one would ever see under all the layers of clothing, Faith turned to the clothes themselves. Enter FRL.
Emily-The Putney Painter
Emily is a watercolour artist, illustrator and designer. After graduating from Edinburgh University, where she gained a master’s degree in History of Art and Italian, Emily moved to Putney where she worked for a decade in the events industry.
Whilst managing events in the heart of St James's London, Emily was asked to paint a portrait of the prestigious, listed building where she worked. This request reignited her love of art and watercolour and she began to take on more commissions for house portraits and bespoke illustrations.
She now lives in Sussex, where she works as a full time artist, creating bespoke illustrations and luxury wedding stationery from her home studio.
Hazel- gamely games
Gamely is a small team based in Brighton in the UK, who create awesome original games that help people spend more quality time laughing together.
Gamely was born when their founder Hazel created a game so hilarious that she managed to lure her then 12-year-old sister away from her beloved iPad. She combined the best bits of her favourite games with a random twist to create Randomise - the family-friendly game that’s guaranteed to make you giggle.
Seeing how Randomise brought people together, she decided to start selling it and it proved to be rather popular… now there are crazy monkeys playing the drums, nervous racoons skydiving and even happy pigs doing the hula in homes all over the world. Hooray!
Today, with a whole host of family-friendly games to their name, including Soundiculous, The Pretender, Frozen Unicorns, Six Second Scribbles and A Little More Conversation - our motto is to have fun and do good!
